TRADITIONAL STAR QUILT BLOCK GOES MODERN.
~~~modern queen size quilt ~~~
Looking good ~ ~ ~ take a simple star block and explode into the modern queen size quilt design you see here. The sweet floral print in black, white, and yellow fabric are combined with a tone on tones in yellow and white, and a solid black, in this queen size bed quilt. The simplicity of the triangle border allows the big star to take center stage in your guest room or master bedroom.
Star blocks have been popular in quilts since the 19th century. Civil War quilts, Underground Railroad quilts, while the Ohio Star was one of the first star quilt blocks. A short time later, the Lone Star or Texas Star was created. Those early quilters used what pieces of fabric they had, began stitching pieces together to make practical quilts needed for soldiers, warmth, traveling, messages, etc.
Stars are a popular quilt block pattern frequently found in quilts, especially since there are hundreds of different stars to choose from. The border of this quilt evolved from the cutoffs, or scraps of the star block, carefully pieced together while creating a dramatic border just falling off the edge of the bed. I did use a solid black sashing to separate the quilt center from the borders, and as a result, framing the edge of the mattress.
